Game Guide Nex - Boss Guide

Nex (coming from the Infernal word for "murder" or "death") is a powerful Zarosian general. She is a Zaryte from the Freneskae plane and one of Zaros' most powerful followers. She is located in the Ancient Prison, sealed away in the back of the God Wars Dungeon.

Location

Nex is the general of the Zarosian army under the God Wars Dungeon in the Ancient Prison of Bandos' Stronghold.

Location
Once arrived, run south until you reach the Frozen Gate Door to the Ancient Prison.
However to open this gate you're required to obtain the Frozen key.

Frozen Key

The Frozen key must be assembled to enter the prison. The four pieces of the key are obtained by defeating followers in each stronghold of the dungeon - Armadyl, Bandos, Saradomin and Zamorak. Level 70 in Ranged, Strength, Agility, and Constitution are required in order to access those strongholds, respectively.

Frozen keys have ten charges, one of which is lost whenever the player enters the Ancient Prison.
Charges can be replenished on the armour stand in a player-owned house or by Bob in ;;market.
If you lose the key you can obtain a new one by collecting all the pieces once again.

Caution: You will not receive key pieces inside the actual boss room(example Bandos) or from their respective minions inside the boss room.

Ancient prison

Once inside go down the stairs to enter the ancient prison.

The following room is filled with Nex's soldiers, ancient warriors, ancient mages, ancient rangers, and blood reavers. This room is dangerous, and the monsters are aggressive. In the back of the room is the door to the second-to-last room to reach Nex. Opening this door requires either killing 25 of Zaros' followers or having equipped a full set of Ancient ceremonial robes. Having Nex armour equipped while make the Ancient minions non-aggresive.

The kill requirement is not needed if you have the Greater gods perk (500vc)

68+ Summoning for the war tortoise. "Only use a yak/tortoise when learning. Otherwise use steel Titan"

Suggested Game Perks

I would recommend to get the following game perks. These will help you out with all sort of PVM content.

Friendly Familiar. Increases familiar (summoning pet) timers by 50% and max health by 25%.
Greater Gods. Remove the required kill count to enter the Boss room. (Highly recommend)
Prayer Party. Slows down prayer drain by 50%, does not work in the wilderness
Herbivore. All monster will have a chance at dropping a box that yields 10 random grimy herbs and increases potion timers by 2 times.
Pyromancy. Increased bonfire spirit chance by 25% and increased health boost while stoking bonfire by 50%
Robin and Ava. Automatically picks-up any dropped ammunition while ranging(like ava)
Overclocking. Increases aura active times by 50% and decreases aura recharge times by 50%(basically double the time of all your auras)
Paramedic. All healing is now 15% stronger. This woks on ALL healing aspects(vampyrism aura, blood spells, food, saradomin brews etc.) Does not work in the Wilderness
Proficient Inventor. Proficient Inventor has only 1 purpose and it is to slow down Invention charge usage by 25%.

Suggested Auras

Poision Purge aura is a tier 1 aura that can be bought from the Loyalty Programme Shop for 2,750 Membership Loyalty Points. Can be activated for 10 min.
Greater Poision Purge aura is a tier 2. Cost 12,500 Loyalty Points. Can be activated for 20 min.
Master Poision Purge aura is a tier 3. Cost 32,500 Loyalty Points. Can be activated for 30 min.

Supreme Poision Purge aura is a tier 4. Cost 51,500 Loyalty Points. Can be activated for 60 min.

Vampyrism aura cost 23,000 Loyalty points. Very good while learning nex.

Berserker aura cost 25,000 Loyalty points which is useful if you're using melee on Nex.

Brawler aura is a tier 1 aura that can be bought from the Loyalty Programme Shop for 4,250 Membership Loyalty Points. Gives increased accuracy by 3%.
Greater Brawler aura is a tier 2. Cost 16,750 Loyalty Points. Gives increased accuracy by 5%.
Master Brawler aura is a tier 3. Cost 29,000 Loyalty Points. Gives increased accuracy by 7%.
Supreme Brawler aura is a tier 4. Cost 57,000 Loyalty Points. Gives increased accuracy by 10%.

Nex Mechanics/phases

Prayer

You can use Soulsplit through out the fight if you can do enough damage to Nex, to heal yourself. While learning I recommend following this rotation of prayers.

Phase 1: Magic/ Melee. Depends a bit which style you're using and what you're weak against.
Phase 2: Range.
Phase 3: Melee, use it against the minions as they can hit hard. If you kill them beforehand or trap them then go over the Magic
Phase 4: Magic. She primarily attacks with magic damage, if she gets into melee distance you may want to switch to Melee.
Phase 5: Magic, when she is further away than Melee distance. Otherwise switch over to Melee.

Minions

Nex has 4 minions, one located in each corner.

Fumus (Located North-West)
Umbra (Located North-East)
Cruor (Located South-East)
Glacies (Located South-West)

The Phases

Nex has 5 phases. Lets go through each one in order.

Phase 1 - Smoke Phase

Smoke Phase:
During this phase, Nex will use Smoke spells in the form of chaotic clouds. This is the only phase in which Nex can poison players. Smoke spells deal significantly higher damage compared to the other ancient spells.

Special attacks:

Choke - Nex will yell Let the virus flow through you! as she attempts to infect them with a virus. This counts as a standard attack and has a chance of missing. The player's combat stats are rapidly drained every time they say "Cough". This can spread between players and has a 3x3 radius. The cough resets if infected players infect healthy or other infected players.
This can be avoided by using anti poison, poison totem or poison purge aura.
Smoke Bullet - Nex will stop attacking, while yelling There is... as she raises her wings, before NO ESCAPE! as she flies down one of the four corridors to the center of the room (her spawn point) damaging any players who stand in her way
This can be avoided by not standing too close to the stairs leading to the center of the map.
Drag - Nex's magic attack has a chance to drag a player towards her, stun and bind them for three seconds, and disable their protection prayers.

Once enough damage has been dealt then you can start attacking the minion Fumus to progress towards the next phase. Located North-West side (clockwise movement)

Phase 2 - Shadow Phase

Shadow Phase:
During this phase, Nex will use Shadow spells in the form of shadow vampyres; however, the attacks are classified as Ranged. This is the only phase where she uses ranged attacks. Successful attacks can drain prayer points slightly.

Special attacks:

Shadow Smash - Nex will yell Fear the shadow!, causing a shadow trap to appear underneath all players in attack range. The traps go off two ticks after being set, and will deal 50% of the player's maximum health as damage.
You can avoid this by moving a space from where the trap is located.
Embrace Darkness - Nex will yell Embrace darkness!, plunging the room into shadow for all players within 15 spaces of her. The closer players are to Nex, the darker the room will be. Which has a chance of giving typeless damage.
You can avoid this by not standing too close to Nex while in the "dark room".

Once enough damage has been dealt then you can start attacking the minion Umbra to progress towards the next phase. Located North-East side (clockwise movement)

Phase 3 - Blood Phase

Blood Phase:
During this phase, Nex will use Blood blitz, which heals her. During this phase, her magic hit chance is increased to 100% and, like the previous phase, can also drain prayer points.

Special attacks:

Blood siphon - Nex will yell A siphon will solve this!, summoning blood reavers. Nex's blood reavers will also heal her for every successful attack they make. The reavers also has a high melee attack.
You can avoid this by trapping them, killing or just tank their attack. (The deal Melee damage)
Blood Sacrifice - Nex will yell I demand a blood sacrifice! and select a random target If the target does not move at least seven spaces away from Nex within four seconds, she will heal equal to the player's maximum health while damaging them for 10% of their maximum health. All other players will have their current prayer points cut in half.
You can avoid this getting the required distance away from her or tanking it.
Healing - This ability is active from the start of the blood phase and last until the phase ends. Any damage she takes from them will heal her instead.
You can avoid this by not attacking her while she's healing.

Once enough damage has been dealt then you can start attacking the minion Cruor to progress towards the next phase. Located South-East side (clockwise movement)

Phase 4 - Ice Phase

Ice Phase:
During this phase, Nex uses Ice spells, which target all players in range. If the player does not have Protect/Deflect Magic activated, they will be bound for four seconds. In addition to this, the prayer drain from her attacks increases greatly, this time draining prayer points

Special attacks:

Ice Prison - Nex will yell Die now, in a prison of ice!, shooting an ice projectile at her target. Upon impact, the targeted player will be stunned, bound and have their protection prayer/curse disabled for 6 seconds as a small prison of ice surrounds the player. If the prison is not broken in this time frame, the ice will shatter, dealing huge amount of typeless damage.
You can avoid this by praying magic and destroying the barrier before getting hit with the typeless damage.
Ice Barrage - Nex will yell Contain this!, raising her right arm before slamming it downwards. Roughly three seconds later, four icicles will appear beside Nex.If the player is next to these icicles, they will take typeless damage, be stunned, bound and have their protection prayer/curse disabled for 3 seconds.
You can avoid this by moving and avoiding the icicles and being a greater distance from nex.

Once enough damage has been dealt then you can start attacking the minion Glacies to progress towards the next phase. Located South-West side (clockwise movement)

Phase 5 - Zaros Phase

Zaros Phase:
Upon the start of this phase, Nex activates Turmoil, yelling "NOW, THE POWER OF ZAROS!" and heals herself

Nex does not have any unique special attacks in this phase and primarily uses her melee and magic auto-attacks. But she has two things which you have to pay attention to.

Wrath - Upon death, Nex will yell "Taste my wrath!", dealing around 400 damage to players within a 5x5 radius of Nex. It takes significantly more time to activate than the player's version of Wrath.
This can be avoided by moving away from Nex, to avoid taking wrath damage once she has been killed.
Smoke Bullet - Nex will stop attacking, while yelling There is... as she raises her wings, before NO ESCAPE! as she flies down one of the four corridors to the center of the room (her spawn point) damaging any players who stand in her way.
This can be avoided by not standing too close to the stairs leading to the center of the map.

Tertiary drops

The Ancient emblem is an item obtained by killing Nex. The emblem is only dropped when a corrupted defender, tainted repriser or blighted rebounder or a better defender has been created.

The emblem can be combined with a chaotic splint to create the ancient defender, ancient lantern, or ancient repriser.

Chance of clue scrolls drops.

Small chance of dropping an Starved ancient effigy

The Blood-soaked feather is an item dropped by the Nex that can be used to unlock the miniature-boss pet Nexterminator.

This monster has access to the rare drop table.
Luck-enhancing items such as a ring of wealth or luck of the dwarves are not required to access the table.
