Update Log #43 - Mining & Smithing Rework, Veteran capes, Toolbelt improvements

This update took me quite a while to do. Every old content piece that was even remotely related to Mining/Smelting/Smithing was scrapped and written from scratch.

 

Mining

  • Mining has been completely rewritten from scratch based off of the Mining & Smithing rework update (read more about it here: Mining & Smithing Rework);
  • Reduced level requirement to mine iron, coal, mithril, adamant and runite to 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 respectively;
  • Adamant and runite now use luminite rather than coal as the secondary ingredient for smelting. Luminite can be mined at mining level 40;
  • Added new tiers of ore to mine. At 60, orichalcite and drakolith. At 70, necrite and phasmatite. At 80, bane ore (existing bane ore counts). At 90, light animica and dark animica;
  • All mining sites have been rearranged to include the new ores;
  • Mining rocks no longer deplete;
  • Every swing now gives XP, but ore is only earned after dealing enough damage to the rock with each swing;
  • Mining using a pick which is lower level than the rock being mined now results in slower XP and ore;
  • If you let yourself go AFK while mining, you will gradually slow down slightly. If you click frequently, you will stay at maximum mining speed. The difference between fastest and slowest is about 20%;
  • When mining you have a chance to gain geodes. Regular geodes contain gems, and metamorphic geodes always contain rare prizes;
  • When levelling mining, you unlock new benefits at every level. Most of these benefits apply only to that tier of rocks;
  • You can make an ore box using the smithing skill. Depending on its upgrade level, it can store up to 100 of each ore;
  • Ore and bars can be stored in the new metal bank which is accessible from any furnace, forge or anvil;
  • Prospecting rocks will show their level, hitpoints, hardness and XP multiplier;
  • Your pickaxe level matters a lot - higher level pickaxes mine faster, and if you're not using a pickaxe at least as high level as the rock you're mining, you get a penalty;
  • Examining any pickaxe will display it's level tier, damage and rock penetration values;
  • Pickaxes can be smithed as high as level 90;
  • Updated all Divination Divine rocks (and their weaving) to their new levels and added the Divine Luminite rock;
  • Added a bunch of new Mining teleport destinations accessible via the Mining teleports interface;
  • Updated Quarrymaster auras to have the new Critical swing chance effects;
  • Updated the Gemstone golem outfits to have the new Critical swing chance effects.

Smithing

  • Smithing has been completely rewritten from scratch based off of the Mining & Smithing rework update (read more about it here: Mining & Smithing Rework);
  • Reduced level requirement to smith iron, steel, mithril, adamant and rune to 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 respectively;
  • Added new tiers of metal to smith. At 60, orikalkum. At 70, necronium. At 80, bane. At 90, elder rune;
  • Adamant and rune now use luminite rather than coal as the secondary ingredient for smelting;
  • Smithed items now take longer to make, which makes each individual item more valuable;
  • Smithed items can be upgraded. This makes them better in combat. Higher level metals can be upgraded more times. To start upgrading, use the base item on any anvil to bring up the upgrading interface;
  • You unlock all smithable items when the tier of metal unlocks, but at every smithing level you unlock new benefits for smithing. Most of these only apply to that tier of metal;
  • Ore and bars can be stored in the new metal bank which is accessible from any furnace, forge or anvil;
  • Smelting now takes ore straight out of player's ore bank;
  • Smithing now takes bars straight out of player's metal bank;
  • With this re-work, a lot of older Smithing content that was not yet introduced is now available (ie. Obsidian bars);
  • Updated protean bar Smithing with all of the new EXP values and interface components.

Toolbelt

  • The toolbelt now supports every single Mining pickaxe in-game;
  • Adding pickaxes to your toolbelt will now remove ALL existing pickaxes in your toolbelt (Iron tier+) before placing the new one inside;
  • Rewrote most of the toolbelt's core code, it should now work much smoother performance wise (no more spaghetti code).

Veteran Capes

  • Added hans at Lumbridge with his full RuneScape 3 dialogue to check your account's age, creation date and play time;
  • Players will be able to get Veteran capes (5/10/15 month) from him, with a neat world announcement when somebody gets theirs for the very first time.

Miscellaneous

  • Upgraded cache to revision 901 update 2 (removal of Christmas Event, Mining & Smithing rework update);
  • Changes to the 'Coalkeeper' perk: renamed to 'Blacksmith', the perk will now grant a 10% chance of smelting an extra bar, 5% chance of saving an ore when smelting and a 15% increased speed when Smithing items;
  • Changes to the 'Quarrymaster' perk: the perk will now increase the maximum mining stamina by 25%, give an additional 10% to critically swing and an extra 5% damage dealt per swing;
  • Removed everything related to the Christmas event (shop, points, sleigh, cracker);
  • All existing Portable Forges from players banks and inventories will be converted into Small portable packs (Jagex completely removed Portable Forges);
  • All coal bags have been removed and Dungeoneering tokens refunded (the coal bag will not be able to be purchased from the rewards store any longer);
  • Converting logs into planks on a portable sawmill will now grant 1 Construction EXP per action;
  • Decreased the ticks between each Harmonic dust cycle while playing on the Prifddinas Harps from 9 to 6;
  • Getting caught while pick-pocketing Prifddinas elves will now display a neat sky-box message saying so;
  • Removed all Dragon armour from the Grand Exchange unlimited stock, since it is power armour now (granting Strength bonus);
  • Added a 1-tick delay before executing the clicked event (object, npc, item pick-up, etc.). Makes things look much smoother and the player actually finish walking before Mining a rock, for example;
  • Added over 6 thousand new item examine texts dumped from the RS Wikipedia pages.

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where you could use different portable's on existing portable stations to prolong their timers;
  • You may now correctly use 'item on item' inside Dungeoneering to do Fletching activities (stringing, cutting, tipping, etc.);
  • There are a lot of other miscellaneous fixes I did throughout the month, just didn't really note them.

Crystal Equipment

  • You can now make all regular and attuned versions of crystal armour at the Prifddinas Singing bowl;
  • Added all off-hand weaponry (regular and attuned);
  • All Crystal items degrade; regular versions will turn into a seed while attuned will go into the broken state. Broken items can be repaired at Bob;
  • Fixed a couple issues with sorting and how items were displayed.

Donator Zone

  • Added a brand new furnace, forge and an anvil;
  • Removed Fishing spots (until further notice);
  • Removed Blurite rocks (until furhter notice);
  • Replaced the Prayer altar with the Altar that's at the home area.

Shooting Star

  • Fixed an issue with the Crashing Stars being all 'wonky' after the update (object id's and their length changed);
  • 'Tagging' a Shooting star will now count for your daily stars. Players who are out of daily star interactions will no longer be able to get the discoverage rewards.

Miscellaneous

  • Veteran cape emotes can now be performed by right-clicking on the equipped cape rather than performing the 'Skillcape emote';
  • Updated how Unpowered orb charging functioned; you now have to use the Magic spell on the according Obelisk in order to start charging orbs;
  • Increased the base Smithing EXP when making items.

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue with Metal Bank depositing noted bars;
  • Fixed an issue with not being able to upgrade your Adamant Ore boxes to Runite versions;
  • Changed all old smithable Treasure trail rewards to the new versions;
  • Fixed an issue with Protean bars not recognizing the object you're using them on;
  • Updated all Grand Exchange unlimited items to their new versions;
  • Updated all Crystal chest item rewards to their new versions.

Seeing the rework on Velheim so soon after it came out is totally unreal. Big thanks to you and those who helped you with this.

Excited to see what future updates for Velheim are coming next :)

Hmm for some reason I keep on getting an Invite Invalid every time I try to use that link.


Anyways the update will be perfect once you can get the rock progress and stamina bars working as well :)
