I'm not a gambler personally but I have to agree that it is a losing point for some people, as some people are addicted to it, and games like this are the perfect place for them to do non self-destructive gambling, I think we should allow it in moderation.
My question is, exactly how do you moderate gambling? How do you stop the rich who can afford to gamble a lot of gp just becoming more rich and thus inflating the market further? How do you stop people scalping money from people who don't know rules? How do you police for scammers?
I think the only answer to all of these is to have staff run gambling games and nobody wants to sit and be the dealer all day, I bet.
To only have them at certain times of day, well, there's always someone that will miss out and complain because of it, so not really fair considering time zones and the variety of RL schedule commitments. -
Something else that I do purely as an occasional hobby because it takes absolutely 5ever to do, is 3D fan art in Blender!
I'm pretty much a newbie to this, haven't done all that much and it's been more than a couple of years since I did anything new properly, so, there's that.
As the models I use are borrowed from copyrighted games/programs, I never make any profit or take commissions for 3D work, it's just a passion project thing.- 2

I've been a avid gamer since I got a new way back when lol. I really enjoy this server and all the people in it, if anyone ever needs any help or needs anything just shoot me a pm in game.
Since you got a new what? I'm dying to know! xD
Good to see your intro, been a top player -
Surprised nobody else has voiced this yet, but I'm disappointed in the removal of bonds from the Loyalty Shop.
For me personally, they have been a valuable source of vcoins so yeah, I'm kinda annoyed. I think it's an easy way out of people alt-scaping and I hope in the future you can add some other way of reducing alt farming (like negate points for afk people, there's already a drastic reduction there that's more than fair imo) rather than taking away a good thing for those of us that aren't abusing it.
Everything else seems good. -
Thanks all for the welcomes, I'll make sure you regret saying you hope I post more on the forum because once I start, it's hard to stop me from spamming replies to everything I read xD

If you've visited my profile, you know I hate writing biographies and the same goes for introductions, but here we go, I'm afk training in Sand's hole so here goes.
Well best start with my name, you can call me Kasha or Wolf! I am nonbinary and don't mind what pronouns you use and I am from sunny ol' England.
I started on reg (Wolf_Fleuret) but now play Classic because I miss RS3, mostly skilling because that's what I enjoy most, though I'm dipping my toes into more and more combat based stuff as I get more confident and geared up. Never maxed on RS3, but I'm aiming for that here, comp cape and all. Go big or go home, right? I've been around since about the end of April, from what I can see? I didn't keep track.
When I'm not on Velheim, I'm usually playing other games, on PC or PS4, if I'm not working!
IRL I'm an artist and crafter, been self-employed for going on 4 years now and I'm making it work with a little help! I'm the Wolf half of Wolf and Hen creations, my partner being the Hen half. She does watercolour impressionist paintings, mostly animals and nature, whereas I'm predominantly a digital artist and jeweller! I've sold my creations to people all over the world and even to a famous face or two.
I also knit, mostly for charity atm, hats for the homeless and blankets for older people.
Basically if it's creative, I've probably tried it, usually with more success than failure!
Anything else you want to know, ask, as I always forget something.- 2

I'd recommend working on the smoothness of your renders, some objects are nice vectors but others seem like they're rasterized and have blurred edges.
Thanks! I wanted to try some muted colours to go with the forum here as I love the dark theme! (Also less eye strain and easier on some people with vision problems!)
That's because it's not a vector Just a stock image because I wanted something I could throw together in a half hour or so. -
Lame title but sue me, I love alliteration.
I made myself a sig, something I haven't done in many years, back when I started playing MMOs I'd design sigs for friends and guildies. It's a simple pleasure for me as I'm an artist by profession with a background in graphic design. Nice to have a reason to put something together again, I've been struggling with art block for a while and this helps! I'm still kind of uncomfortable about showing off my work, but it's something I'm actively working on as if I want to really pursue it as a career, then it's a necessity, duh!
Kind of a Portfolio
I'll update this post with the latest work that I post in this thread, so there's an easy master post for everything.

Some suggestions from @Korbin because he's too lazy to post xD
1. Reading over the suggestions, seen a couple talk about how pressure to prestige and re-grind is off putting
Then why not have each mode get an increase to their xp rate after each prestige, not much to make it broken, but like, we're on classic atm with 2x, if we prestige at all 99s, that xp rate goes up to 2.5x-3x to make the next grind slightly, but not too much easier.
Normal 200x accounts, meh, balls to them. Have prestige cap out at a certain xp rate, say classic goes up in increments from 2x to 5x at max, get 0.5x extra each prestige. 10x could cap out at 50x. Give prestige more value than just points!
2. Give more for us to spend points on. Sitting here at harps wishing for more per tick... why not stick a perk on it? Imagine a 2k VC perk that notes archaeology stuff. Give us some more tiers on perks that stack up or give different buffs.
3. You know how shooting stars are useless once you've got everything from them? Let us spend dust on spins/vote books/bonds or something! Keep it viable, like Evil Trees are always more popular because of the gp and spins. And the stars have a daily limit so its not like it'll be a massive deal in terms of an influx of bonds, want more? Donate!
4. Give methods of obtaining the xp outfits other than spins. Like the fletching/herblore/smiting outfits, etc. Could be on a mini game, spotlighted skilling activity or just a small % from training the skill.
5. Upgraded bonecrusher please :3 gives the choice of what bones to crush and which to auto pickup or not.
6. Code missing relics. They're what make archaeology viable and even if they need to be adjusted to work around existing perks, they're a great source of perk rewards for people putting time into the skill.

People are always gonna move around from game to game, it's just normal. Don't beat yourself up if Velheim has a drop. Also, currently there's kind of a big MMO swing going on between WoW and FFXIV, and it's likely impacting other MMO's as well. Just blame Blizzard.
As a player of FFXIV for many years, I can confirm the mass exodus from WoW is causing havok there.
As far as for Velheim, I do think this and a lot of Covid restrictions being lifted is behind some of the drop for sure.
One suggestion for this is, considering the two types of RS player in my experience, maybe have some kind of special, promotion, advert and event around the school holidays?
I'm not suggesting everyone who plays are kids, but some are and another big lot are parents so there's two opportunities there. Being a pretty international community, you could borrow a lot of holidays from all over the world.I'm in no way suggesting a huge event for every one, but I dunno, simple things like best costume contest on the forum, mini holiday themed quizzes, stuff that gets people involved in both the game and on the forum. Keep them thinking about Velheim even when they're not playing! Prizes could be as simple as one or two bonds, a chunk of gp or some resources, nothing that's going to be economy breaking but some good QoL stuff or stuff that will sell/trade easily.

I'm sitting in the salon waiting to get my hair cut so thought I'd add my 2p to this while I'm here, will probably edit when I get home to add more.
First and foremost, @Sandstorm I applaud you on creating and curating this server, it's an often thankless task, I know from experience (have dev/run my own server and been admin of a couple of big ones in another game) People complaining 24/7 can really get you down. Please, please don't let it make you think Velheim is dead, it's still up there in the top lists and you've asked earlier than later for help from a community that is (mostly) full of decent people with a love for your version of this game. We can climb back up!
I'd like to echo what some people have said, I'll tl;dr the points I agree with:
1.Bosses/pvm is too easy at endgame.
2. Said endgame is viewed as "easy" to get to
3. There's little in between being a poor noobie and afk bossing all day
4. Combat is very 2D, meaning it's get 2h or go home
5. Adding other little events between the big flagship ones like KotS, Beach and 3x is a great idea, liking a lot of the suggestions here.
6. Polls are a great idea and I agree with only poll between options you're willing to do.
Other things that I don't agree with or haven't been said already:
1. Please for the love of Guthix don't add gambling! As an easy fix, it works in the short term, but it's faddy and it will bring in mostly people who make throwaway accounts to see if they can gamble/cheat/cheese a ton of gp from people. If they do, they'll stay, but if they don't, they'll leave again and short term players don't build a good playerbase. That in turn, doesn't foster a good community that will stay and donate because they enjoy the server.
2. For events, you might want to consider making one of your current staff or hiring another person to be an Events Manager. Their role would be to formulate and run little community events regularly between the big ones. Of course all of them would be approved by you for content and rewards, but it would take some stress off of you.
3. Skilling content is a little bit bland. This is quite personal for me as I'm not a bosser yet. There's some good suggestions in this thread and I'd like to add maybe make the skilling pets give a small boost, 1-3% to the corresponding skill when they're summoned. That would give people a little more incentive to get them and to summon them instead of having an army of Mortys and boss pets at skilling locations.
4. More interaction on the forum, maybe some forum based events, art contests, themed costume contests, monthly quizzes, stuff that gets people involved in the community as a whole rather than just the game. They don't have to have big prizes, because they're supposed to be pretty easy, but little prizes that are seen as reachable by the everyday player are really attractive. Like the constructive feedback posts, there's actually a ton of people here who are willing to help out, get involved and not just complain! That's so rare in a PS community!

Based on my own experience as a skiller on a classic account rather than combat focused, thought I'd throw in my 2pence since it's probably a different outlook from most!
1 = Stamina Stallion - same reasons as everyone else, really, it's so annoying running out of stamina.
2 = Lucky Seven - grab it early and it'll more than pay for itself adding a little bit of luck to everything you do
3 =Dungeon Demon - similar reason, makes dung so much faster and so easier to stomach, can even spend some time skilling in there
4 = Coin Collector - Who doesn't love more gp and auto pick up?
5 = Prayer Party - Saves on pots you gotta carry and trips to recharge
6 = Preslaysion OR Investigator - depending on if you want to level combat or get a good stash of clues going while skilling
7 = Master Inventor - Invention is so damn slow, it's really worth it to speed up and get more parts.

Staff & Server Feedback - July 2021
in Feedback
Posted
@Sandstorm
Positives: Your transparency has been a great addition, honestly, it's super refreshing and I respect you for holding your hands up and saying you think you have a problem with getting/maintaining the player base. 90% of the updates have been stellar, the Quality of Life ones are so, so welcome, like the Div updates, :chef_kiss: Delicious.
Negatives: Haven't seen much of you in game though, but I'm assuming that's because you've been busy with IRL and behind the scenes, it's really only a very minor negative. I like seeing an owner in game if only for an hour every few days or so.
@Arcadiez
Positives: Been a lot more active in game that I've seen, which was one of my big negatives last month, so that's awesome! You've been more positive and helpful too in general, rather than mostly memeing and trolling people. It's good to have that balance.
Negatives: My one negative has been that a couple of times, I've seen you blatantly not uphold a server rule with regards to people being offensive in chat and really, that's not cool. I did call you out on it at the time, too.
@Dynasty
Positives: Been pretty consistently helpful, can't really say too much more on that, also still good for a laugh and very tolerant of bants <3
Negatives: Could stand to see a bit more of you in game but that might just be scheduling not lining up, pretty minor thing really.
@Nhs
Positives: Very consistent, the member of the senior staff I've seen most of in my time playing this month. Really helpful as ever but still up for the bants and jokes in FC.
Negatives: Honestly can't think of anything right now so that's nice!
@Yggdrasil
Positives: Definitely one of the most consistently present members of staff, helpful as always be it game questions or sage advice on keeping your bark moisturised.
Negatives: Again, can't really think of anything off the top of my head so all good!
@Iron Tyrone
Positives: Literally the same as last month, totally on the ball with answers for a wide range of questions in game, generally really helpful, even asks after players he's not seen on in a while, really nice fostering the community spirit <3
Negatives: Getting to be a theme, the one thing is maybe could see you online more but as always, it's not anything like a huge deal because life > game.
@NubonmyPC (Nubonmyright)
Positives: An absolute walking encyclopaedia of RS knowledge, usually the first to answer questions if he's on. Good to see staff run mass events too, again fostering that community spirit.
Negatives: Based on personal experience, you could be a little more transparent in giving warnings and bring a little less of your personal view into player disputes. Being impartial is the best stance for staff, even if the people involved are friends.
Server
Changes I liked: As said earlier, since server changes = Sand, the Quality of Life changes have been mostly stellar, fixes and additions are so welcome, new cosmetics and rewards go a long way towards keeping things fresh. The Beach event has been delicious! Semi-AFK dung is love, the switching up of spotlighted stations, it's a really nice fit for an event that's not Overpowered, not too afk and interactive, a ton of cosmetic rewards on RNG as well as the exp, it's great for a skiller like me!
Changes I disliked: No surprises here, I'm not a fan of the removal of Bonds from the Loyalty shop. I get why it was done, been into this on the update thread, but it's really not fair on those of us who don't abuse it, especially Irons because they're pretty much forced to farm the vcoins on an alt now to be able to progress as fast as the rest of the players who can trade. Basically it's now the reason I've shelved my Iron for the foreseeable future.
Changes I'd like to see: Return bonds to the Loyalty shop, but make it borderline impossible to AFK-scape. Make it so that loyalty points are only gained when actively playing, meaning skilling, running around and combat, aka make people actually be clicking or typing to get paid. The current reduction is a good idea, I would just make it even less profitable to be afk. Like 5 loyalty points for AFKing while 300 for the one account linked and active, it's a huge difference.
OR
Add in a shop for Irons only that they can buy untradeable bonds that can't be used on other players. Give the guys a break, they're already busting their asses doing everything for themselves.
Anachronia having more things from RS3 added.
More Archeology relics for the perks, some are poggers.
Menaphos having more things from RS3 added (It's such a lovely skilling zone, even without the reputation system)
More title rewards, like the ones from the Beach event UwU
More bank space pls, I have a hoarding problem.
- K -
Hope this is all helpful at least in a little way, I'd have spent more time thinking about it but I've been too busy until today!
