  1. Good part of your day,

I understand this is a tired argument from me, but it is something I'm passionate about and I'd love to see changed.

After making my return to Velheim, slapping Zuk, Kerry and an overgrown popsicle around I've quietly returned to the Forinthry Dungeon to do some extended ghost hunting. Having killed over 17000 revenants for the Chaos Elemental collection log, I only ever saw 2 Revenant Spirit drops.

    2iwH6Da.pnglvZXDDM.png

(I get the log says 3, that's a bug. I got that verified)

How the Revenant Spirit works on RS3

    Spoiler

To prevent making this an overly lengthy post, I'll only briefly explain the Rev Spirit or Rev Pet mechanics as they are on the main game:

The revenant spirit is a rare drop that can drop from any revenant. Once picked up and unlocked, you'll unlock the next tier of the revenant pet. There's 14 tiers in total, and each tier becomes progressively more rare to drop until you're hitting a roughly 1/4166 rare for the final upgrade killing exclusively the highest level revenant (dragon).

People that only ever kill the dragon for the Rev pet can get a maxed out pet in as low as around 15000 kc, while people that do full sweeps can easily get over 100000 revenant kc before getting that coveted final drop.

Source for more info on the pet here.

And to prove I'm not just talking out of my ass, my retail RS3 account has the Hobgoblin, or tier 5 of the pet at less than 1/3 of the KC that my Velheim account is at on tier 2. Provided, this was mostly killing the dragon while Velheim Twenty did more full sweeps for the c-log. Having said that, Velheim's revenants also have a more static rare drop table (which I think is a good thing) while RS3 revs are exponentially harder to get drops from the lower you go.

    2GYqKNe.png

How the Revenant Spirit works on Velheim

    Spoiler

The Revenant Spirit on Velheim is a flat drop rate from any revenant respective to their rare drop table. For the dragon, my account has a 1.734% chance of hitting the RDT, or a 1/57.67 chance per dragon killed, this obviously will vary depending on game mode and other factors like potions, prestige etc. Each revenant has access to the exact same rare drops, with there being a total of 63 drops on this table. Assuming they all have the same chance to drop, and I have no reason to see why they wouldn't, each revenant spirit for me is around a 1/3633.21 drop chance from revenant dragons. This would mean that to gain all 14 pets with average luck, I'd need to kill 43,598 more dragons from my current point considering I have 2 tiers of the pet.

This makes the pet effectively about rare as the Revenant Ork (T11) to Revenant Dark Beast (T12) pet upgrade on RS3, which sits at around 1/3571 from the dragon.

    Proposed Changes

    Spoiler

I have a few ideas that I thought up. I have no clue how hard any of these are to code, so with that said Sand, I hope you read this with the knowledge I respect you a lot and this is just the thoughts of a pleb who can't even point out Java on a map.

    - Add an extra ''ultra rare'' table to Revenants and move the spirit there. I'd imagine this would be around 10x rarer than hitting the very rare table, so 1/570 for me. Even something lower like 1/1000 would mean there's a lot less frustration when it comes to rolling duplicate collection log items when there's nothing left at revs but the pet hunt. After all, they don't serve a real purpose as a moneymaker nor training spot, and it'd lower a still lengthy grind to be much more feasible.

    - Make the pet automatically upgrade at certain Revenant KC's after the initial drop is obtained, retroactively. This could either be exponential or a static amount per upgrade.

    - Make an approach similar to RS3's where the pet becomes much easier to obtain early on and only reaches droprates similar to what it is now for the final few tiers.

Bonus: On Rs3, you get this cool interface that allows you to swap between pet appearances. If that could be implemented too, I'd die a happy man

    HrKK1WC.png

Extra suggestion for coll log hunters

    Spoiler

This is a bonus for the mad few that want to go for the Wilderness/Chaos Ely log. On RS3, you can get both the regular version of an ancient warrior's piece or the corrupted version, both count for the collection log slot. I don't stand to gain anything if this were to be implemented because pulling my hair out over Vesta's Plateskirt once was quite enough, but I do think it'd be cool since this would potentially pull more people to the Rev caves, which in turn could also make them more active for PVP.

Thanks for reading, and have a great rest of your day!

  2. You owe us no explanation, brother NHS. IRL is and has always been that bitch, and your actions throughout the server's history speak miles to your love for its community and prosperity. Once life settles, if it even does, everyone on Velheim will happily welcome you back.

  3. With the teaser of the much-anticipated cheesemaking function being posted in server teasers recently, I figured I'd get ahead of the curve and help all of you understand the fine art of making delicious, calcium-filled cheese.

    Foreword

    Spoiler

It's important to understand that ''cheese'' is a very broad term referring to a wide variety of delicacies enjoyed around the world. While in its very essence cheese is consisting of a basic set of ingredients, it's the extra added touches like aging, herbs, environment, diet and many other factors that go into the unique flavours of each cheese. Therefore, to truly stand out among cheesemakers you'll want to experiment and create your very own taste sensation through much practice. Do not get discouraged if your first few attempts at making cheese taste rubbery, lack texture or are otherwise imperfect. Patience truly is key!

    Requirements

    Spoiler

To make good cheese, you'll at least need the following ingredients:

    - Milk

    - Vat to store milk

    - A way to acidify the milk, either directly with acidic injection or bacterial cultures

    - A coagulating substance like rennet to bind the enzymes within the milk

    - A cheese harp (high level) or knife (low level)

    - A way of stirring the vat (Noxious Scythe or Zaros Godsword recommended)

    - Colander to drain the whey

    - Time, salt and patience

    IRONMEN:

Cow, Goat or Sheep to milk

    - Bucket to catch milk

    - Food for the animal to produce milk from like grass (those are the green little sprouts outside, Velheim player)

    The Process

    Spoiler

The first step is to acquire milk, either through natural means or by buying it from other players/the supermarket.

If acquired from the udder, the milk will naturally be at body temperature and ready to be sterilized and used for cheese. If acquired from the supermarket, it'll likely be cold and need to be warmed up first. Once the milk is vatted at a proper temperature, you'll reach the first difficult step in the process:

    ACIDITY

To ensure your milk has the right acidity, there's 2 different approaches you can take: Direct acidification involves dumping an acidic substance into the milk to immediately get the right acidity level for your cheese. As this process is abrupt and doesn't leave much time for the milk to bind, this process will result in loose, crumbly cheeses like ricotta and mascarpone. The alternative method is to add a bacterial culture to the vat and store it. Over time, the bacteria will eat up the lactose within the milk and turn it into lactic acid, readying it for cheese-ification! This method is lower intensity for less xp/h.

    BINDING

Once your milk has acidified properly, it's time to bind it. This can be done using one of various binders, but for beginners I recommend a rennet consisting of vegetable-based bacteria, buyable from several dairy merchants.

You'll know your cheese is ready to be curled once it's jelly in texture and wobbles around rather than sloshes. If you can press your hand onto the surface and remove it without too much stick you'll know you did it right!

    CURD HANDLING

Now that you have your curd, it's time to cut it into cubes. The size and density of these cubes will eventually decide how dry and sturdy your final cheese will be, as smaller pieces retain less moisture. Use a cheese harp once you're experienced, or use your best melee gear early on and cut them nice, small or thick, and then put them in a warm vat with plenty of moisture. It's PIVOTAL to stir properly throughout this process, or you'll risk losing all your hard work to burn! The time needed to stir is dependent on how dry you want your final cheese to be.

Once the whey has been removed from the vat and replaced with water, this will allow your curd to turn more elastic and flexible.

    DRYING THE CURD

Now that your curd is proper sized, the next step involves quickly transporting your curd from the vat into a cylindrical-shaped container and mushing it together. The quicker you do this, the better your cheese wheel will look as the pre-existing heat within the curd cubes will allow them to bind together better.

    FINALIZING

Now that you have your ''raw'' cheese wheel it's time to add your final, personal touch to the recipe. Adding salt, spices and other ingredients will add flavour to your cheese. At this point, your cheese is ready to be eaten! Though experienced cheese makers will want to let their cheese sit for longer to give it that distinct, well-aged taste.

Thanks for reading this guide on cheese making! I hope it'll help you when this awesome feature gets released, and if Sand ever decides to add butterchurning or other dairy processes, you best believe I'll help you guys then as well!

    Best wishes,

    Twintig Weken/Honderdveertig Dagen

  4. Individual proposed tokens feedback:

Pet chance increase: All good. Great way to huff more copium on pets you're dry for and seems like a harmless, good buff.

General/Rare table increase: I struggle with this one. Having a way to get more drops when the idea of the item burning system is to decrease the amount of items circulating in the economy seems counterproductive. Of course, it comes down to how much of an increase it'd actually give and how much you need to burn to get one of these tickets. If it's relatively accessible, it's a good way for mid-level players to get an increased chance of end-game drops and therefore accumulate more wealth. If it's expensive because of how strong it is, then it only benefits the already rich high-level players. Seems like the hardest one to balance and the most important one to get right.

Legendary Pet Unlocks: Great. Leg pets need an alternate way of accessing them, so I'm all for this. If this doesn't get implemented like currently proposed, I'd love for them to be accessible through a ton of Loyalty Points in the future.

Cosmetics: Awesome. Stuff that doesn't re-enter the econ or increase player power/QoL while being fun to collect would be my primary reason to burn items.

Exp boosters: Sure. Especially if tradeable this could be a great way for mains to level up their classic alts and whatnot. Excellent idea

Action speed increases: I'd prefer if these were permanent unlocks for a large amount of points, with a tradeable ''codex'' version available for an even larger amount akin to how we currently unlock curses and whatnot. Permanent gem cutting increase, protean speed, potion mixing etc would be lovely to unlock. Having said that, I like the idea nonetheless.

Item charge/drain reduction: Depends a bit on how strong it is. It's a nice buff that I'd certainly use, but if it devalues a skilling moneymaker by making divine charges less valuable that might feel bad for those that grind incand energies.

Attack speed increase: I would prefer not seeing something like that. This might be the elitist in me speaking as me and my clan have seen all the content and blah blah blah, but here's a few reasons I can think of why this would be a bit iffy:

    - It'd make boss speed highscores less competitive

    - If combined with a drop rate increase ticket, it'd significantly increase kills and therefore gp/hour from easily farmable bosses which is great until their drops get devalued as a result when lots of players do this

    - Would remove challenge from harder bosses if you can skip certain mechanics or even phases as a result of the increased DPS output.

I like that you're embracing the idea of an item burn system, hope it's gonna get implemented in a fair and balanced way!

  5. I'm going to provide my POV on this event and purely that. As such, this is the perspective of me, Twenty, and not necessarily that of my teammates.

Did you participate in Boardhunter II? Why or why not?

Yes. In fact, Boardhunter 2 was my first ever official event on Velheim that I participated in. The idea was awesome and the execution, on paper, was great too.

Would you participate again in the future?

Absolutely. In fact, despite winning the event my fondest memory of the whole period was establishing Bandits as a clan and using this event as a way to strengthen my connections with clan members.

What did you like about the event?

I served as our team's record keeper and planner. To me, it was very fun managing the flow of drops and planning out the best route to fill out our board. Going to sleep and waking up to the madmen on my team having obtained 3-4 new drops was insane. And, as mentioned above, the chance to bond with friends on Velheim.

What did you dislike about the event?

I guess this is a doozy, but let's dig in.

    - I won't mention specific players or teams, but the behaviour of certain groups towards the top contending teams was quite toxic and not very fun to deal with at all.
    - The Golden Praesul log being a requirement for this event. For reference, I believe we would have lost to team Brazil if it was just the regular purple Praesul log to complete AOD, but the sheer amount of burn-out both teams went through to powergrind AOD and nothing but was a bit off-putting. I had it easy, too. I was on the way back from a day-long concert when we won, but I think our team handily did well over a full-time week's worth of AOD over a few day span.
    - The length, further elaborated on below.

Was the event period too long or too short?

For us? Too long. For the teams that were solid but not contending at no-lifer hours? Too short. This issue is the main reason why there was such a big amount of backlash to the decision to re-introduce the instant win clause. Teams that might have had great use for the few days of relative rest where both Jailbait and team BR would not have had that much to do felt cheated out of an opportunity to win, whereas we felt we would be cheated out of our effort put in if we had to wait for us to be able to get the points to allow us to finish first.

So how do you solve that? I don't have any one perfect solution, my feedback on this specifically for a future event similar to this one would be:

Let there be an alternative prize for those that finish the full board first while keeping the rules of the whole event intact. This could encourage teams with extra time/planning to really push their limits of efficiency while not making others feel like they -have- to contend for this prize to win. Not to say we didn't have a gameplan for the last 3 bonus point days, of course we did, but I do understand where the vitriol from other teams comes from.

    Were the rewards worth participating?

Erm, I'd say so yeah. Ultimately the title is all we really cared about as the pet and cloak are kind of whatever and the bonds are just throwing stuff on the money pile. We would've liked for the title to be golden, but I understand why it isn't after chatting with Tyrone about it briefly.

    Closing thoughts

Despite not everything going as may have been intended, I want to echo what has been said before and thank Tyrone for the fun event, as well as personally give my words of respect for team BR and how they played, especially as a 3 man group. That performance was absolutely nuts.

I don't hold any grudges and I hope others don't either, whatever event is next, I hope to participate again with the Bandits crew and to see others rise up to the occasion as well.

  6. Torn on this. While I definitely agree FC is often off-topic, a lot of questions are better answered by wiki-ing the relevant page and getting a proper explanation rather than a shortened FC answer. There's also a lot of wrong info being given to players by self-proclaimed helpers who I won't name, but it repeats a loop. Having said that, I wouldn't be against either a newbie channel in the disc or FC getting heavily moderated.

  7. Brilliantly written application Fred. You're one of the funniest, most friendly people I know on here and I'd love to see you get a chance with the staff team, especially if you make your presence in FC a bit more thorough as a result.

I think you're very deserving of this position so it's a strong +1 from me, hope you get to trial as helper!

  8. Bandits

Bandits is a newly-formed clan consisting of some of the best Velheim players, both current and former, dedicated to keeping both yourself and each other on top of the game. If you:

    - Love PVM
    - Are serious about your endgame goals
    - Have a mindset that's not only focused on yourself
    - Are knowledgeable and looking to elevate yourself to the next level of gameplay

Then Bandits might be the clan for you! While there's no hard-set requirements to join the clan, we generally want clan applicants to have at least reached most of the following:
    - 100+ hours of gameplay
    - Multiple kills on all solo bosses and 1500+ Enrage reached on Telos
    - Have at least an adequate set of gear for group bossing (Regular Sirenic and Ascensions as an example)

So, are you a person that wants to learn group bosses and work your way up to being among Velheim's best? Then hit any of us up in-game to have a chat! Bandits' leadership is non-centered, meaning the clan has no one owner or anyone having the final word. You can reach us in-game on:

    - Twenty Weeks (Probably AFKing)
    - Nubonmyright (Probably e-dating)
    - Wakeuplucki (Rarely has private on, anxiety issues)

Or hit up any member in our CC to start a convo! We look forward to having you among our ranks. Love from El Banditos

  9. I think you tend to be overly serious about maintaining ''law and order'' and that while that's not a bad trait to have for a staff member, it can be destructive long-term if people feel silenced. I'm hesitant to +1 this, despite the well-written and neatly formatted application. Regardless, I wish you good luck with it.

Some of the better specs to be stored such as stat hammers and stuff now that weapon type doesn't matter for the same combat style, would be a good addition if you plan on updating this.

think it's good to just keep it as an explanation of how the EOF works, rather than make it a post about what specs are best for what styles. Better to let people get the fundamentals and experiment themselves.

Do you want to kill Velheim's hardest bosses consistently, learn the ins and outs of PVM and also have a great time doing it? Are you in luck pal, introducing:

Buds With Death, a Velheim PVM community

    What is BWD?

    Spoiler

Buds With Death is a pseudo-clan made by Twenty Weeks, a jaded asshole who thinks he knows everything. I say pseudo-clan as there's no real requirements to join the FC (more info below) and there's no official clan in-game.

BWD serves as a hub that will take players newer to endgame PVM but eager to learn and not only take them for kills for group bosses and other high-level content such as Elite Dungeons, the vision is to have them eventually pay it forward and show the next generation of Velheim players how to consistently do this content.

We are not a leeching community. While there's no real precautions we can set to have you not disappear after 1 kill, we don't want to become a place where people jump in, get what they want, jump out. Ultimately, it's all about creating a community where people can get valuable advice from trusted high level players to help themselves improve.

    What will BWD offer -you-?

    Spoiler

''Great to hear Twenty, everyone helps everyone and at night we'll dance around the campfire singing kumbayah. What can I actually expect from joining here?''

Woah, such hostility! I understand. Simply put, BWD will offer you a platform to test your mettle against the game's hardest bosses including Vorago, Nex: Angel of Death, the Ambassador and much more. Even if you don't give a shit about actually learning long-term, chances are you'll earn money to progress your account while doing this. As well as that, we offer people the chance to grow into a mentor role themselves. If you want to learn PVM, there's simply no better way to go about it. We also have connections with Misfits, the game's highest level and most well-organized clan, and give you the opportunity to grow into a spot there if you perform well.

    How to join

    Spoiler

To join the Buds With Death community, simply join the friends chat as so:
    qjXpI1a.png
    1PF6oRF.png
    SBkEe6C.png

Simple, right? You'll now be in the community and, provided you meet the requirements listed below, can start joining for runs and learning high level PVM.

    Requirements and Da Rulez

    Spoiler

While requirements to join each boss may vary, a general set-up that will allow you to do most content will look something like this:

    SNEs3rd.png

Skill requirements to join end-game bosses:
    Herblore-icon.png?fbbf2 96 for Overloads
    Prayer-icon.png?0e5f2 95 for Turmoil/equivalent
Summoning-icon.png?202f5 52 for Beast of Burden

    Aura unlocks:
    Vampyrism_aura.png?49251 Vampyrism

    Dark_magic_aura.png?1bfe5 Dark Magic

    Reckless_aura.png?8770d Reckless

    Special requirements per boss:

    Nex: Angel of Death
    - Dual wielded crossbows with your off-hand being a repriser of at least level 80 + Bolt switch
    - Spirit shield (Arcane, Elysian or Divine are all fine)
    - Runes for entangle (water, earth, nature)
    - Antipoison
    - Shield that can provoke (level 80 chaotic shield/level 90 RotS shield)
    - Read Esker's incredible guide and familiarize yourself with the mechanics

    Barrows: Rise of the Six
    - Ghost hunter pieces x3
    - Ancient magic spellbook unlocked + 92 magic for blood barrage
    - Salve Amulet (e)

Special requirements to join groups can be set by mentors and are up to their own discretion. These simply serve as guidelines for what you should have to tackle these bosses in an efficient manner.

When you join one of these learner runs, you'll commonly be requested to come on voice chat to be able to listen to your group's mentor making calls. You're not required to have a mic/speak yourself, but you should be able to listen. These voice chats will happen on Velheim's main server unless Sand decides to allow me to make my own Discord for this community specifically. Angery >:(

    Rules & Regulations

    - Most obviously, while we're a friends chat not directly linked to the main chat channels of Velheim, you're still expected to follow Velheim rules within the fc. Failure to do so will get you reported to staff and sent to a brutal gulag in north-eastern Siberia.
    - Leeching bosses (barely contributing and leaving after only a few kills) will get you blacklisted from joining future runs. You're expected to stay for a full Overclocked aura rotation at least, or until the mentor decides to call the run.
    - You're always expected to be able to share knowledge when you can, and to always be respectful about it. Everyone can get emotional, I would know, but BWD is no place to spread toxicity. We're here to help you learn and expect that you show patience to players that come after you in turn.

Quite a doozy, isn't it? Why not join Buds With Death today and put some hair on your chest, ass in your jeans or whatever other bodily feature you wish to develop? Still not convinced? Here's some testimonials.

''I wanted to summon Xau-Tak into this world to bring about an age of darkness, but getting repeatedly clapped by BWD has made me reconsider.'' ~ The Ambassador

To celebrate the launch of this initiative. I will be doing Nex: Angel of Death learner runs all evening whenever I log on tonight. Look for an announcement in the help fc!
