Arcadiez
The Monastery of Ascension, or the Ascension dungeon, is a high-level Slayer dungeon in the Feldip Hills that contains a number of magic-based monsters, all of which are weak to Ranged. The monastery is home to the Order of Ascension, a former Guthixian group that has been kidnapping local villagers. The lowest level monsters in the monastery require 81 Slayer, while the bosses require 95 Slayer. Location You can teleport to the Monastery of Ascension through the Teleportation Menu, Go to Slayer - Monastery of Ascension. You can also teleport directly to each Ascension boss by going to the Teleportation Menu - Bosses - Legio XXX Full Dungeon map Slayer Creatures There are 4 Different slayer creatures in the dungeon. All four of the creatures require 81 Slayer and can be assigned by Duradel/Lapalok, Kuradal, Morvran or Laniakea. Rorarius are level 84 combat slayer creatures. Rorarii are generally found near other Rorarii in packs of two to nine, with a single lone exception in the south-western section of the dungeon. When an untagged, undamaged Rorarius is attacked by a player, it will send out a visible "alert" and cause nearby Rorarii within a 5x5 radius of the attacked Rorarii to become aggressive towards the player that attacked it. Although Rorarii use magic as with the rest of the members, they can occasionally send out a second "alert", causing some of the Rorarii to switch to melee attacks. Gladius are level 91 combat slayer creatures. Gladii fight with moderately weak magic attacks. When a gladii takes enough damage, they will "teleport" away from their position and move backwards. If the gap between them and the player is sufficient enough, they will "charge" the player, stunning and binding them for 3 seconds Capsarius are level 105 combat slayer creatures. Capsarii are the Order's healers and are rather uncommon throughout the monastery. When a capsarii detects that a fellow member has taken damage, they will attempt to reach that member. The healing range is the same as their attack range; if they reach the target, then they will start sending orbs of energy that heals the member. While also applying a massive damage reduction buff on them at the same time. This forces players to kill the Capsarii immediately, as they will heal more than the damage the targeted member takes. However, they cannot heal themselves nor heal other capsarii. Scutarius are level 105 combat slayer creatures. The arms of the Scutarii have been heavily warped, with each one forming one "half" of a shield, and they always keep the shield in front of them. In order to deal full damage, they must be attacked directly or within 45 degrees from their back - any other angle will result in reduced damage. The most common method is to stun and move behind them before attacking and killing them. Scutarii are often found in pairs, though there are occasional outliers of a single spawn scattered around the dungeon Use the Full map in the Location Section to see where each slayer creature is located. Remember that you can use a cannon in the dungeon to get faster kills. Great for farming keys, similar using Aggression potion for afk farming. Ascension Legion Bosses There are 6 different Legion bosses. The Legiones are the strongest unit in the Monastery of Ascension, each requiring one of their own respective Ascension keystone needed to kill them once each time. They are hunted for their signets which are in turn used to create the expensive ascension crossbow and its off-hand counterpart. Level 95 Slayer is required to enter the Legiones' chambers. It is not required for fighting them. This requirement can also be boosted. The Legiones use fairly inaccurate magic attacks, and are able to summon lightning strikes on the floor that can be avoided, similar to the Corporeal Beast's area-of-effect magic attack. Legios always use two lightning attacks, then a basic magic attack (with the exception of Secundus and Sextus). These lightning strikes are not to be underestimated; they can deal incredibly high damage based on the player's position, and always hit with 100% accuracy regardless of the player's armour rating. Apart from the increased damage, the rate of damage also increases the closer the player is to the centre; when standing exactly on top of the lightning strike, damage incurred is twice as fast compared to the edges. All Legiones are both poison and reflect immune. They are still affected by leech curses. The best way to avoid getting killed is to pray Magic deflect and keep moving, avoiding the lightning strikes. Lets go through each boss Primus Primus You're required to have Primus keys to enter his chamber. Legio Primus attacks primarily with a combination of a basic magic attack and a lightning attack. Which deals high, magic-style damage to the player if they stand where the lightning falls. (The lightning attack is always affixed to the player's location, and thus continuously moving throughout the fight is imperative.) Ability Legio Primus' unique ability is that the lower life points he has, the more damage he will deal - akin to that of Dharok the Wretched. Strategy Stay as close as possible to Primus as you will deal more damage the closer you are. Pray Magic deflect and keep moving to avoid taking damage from the Lightning strikes. Secundus Secundus You're required to have Secundus keys to enter his chamber. Legio Secundus attacks primarily with a combination of a basic magic attack and a lightning attack. Which deals high, magic-style damage to the player if they stand where the lightning falls. (The lightning attack is always affixed to the player's location, and thus continuously moving throughout the fight is imperative.) Ability Legio Secundus' unique ability is using the lightning orb attack more frequently as his life points lower. At 75% health, he will use three orb attacks, then one basic magic attack. At 50%, he uses a simple magic attack every four orbs, and at 25% he will exclusively attack with lightning. This is generally not a problem as using the hit-and-run tactic as normal will nullify this ability, however the lightning orbs will be more frequent so having high life points is advantageous when most of his are depleted. Strategy Compared to Primus, you want to have a little more distance from Secundus to avoid getting overwhelm of lightning strikes. Pray Magic deflect and keep moving to avoid taking damage from the Lightning strikes. Remember that the strikes will occur faster and faster so having weapons with "quick attack" is recommended. Example using dual wield rather than 2-h. Tertius Tertius You're required to have Tertius keys to enter his chamber. Legio Tertius attacks primarily with a combination of a basic magic attack and a lightning attack. Which deals high, magic-style damage to the player if they stand where the lightning falls. (The lightning attack is always affixed to the player's location, and thus continuously moving throughout the fight is imperative.) Ability Legio Tertius' unique ability is summoning Monastery of Ascension units when his health lowers - 3 Rorarii when he reaches 75% life points, 1 Gladius when he reaches 50% life points and 1 Capsarius when he reaches 25% life points. The Capsarius can be much more problematic than the Gladius, as it will heal the wounded Ascended, which will almost always be Tertius, though she may focus her attention on the wounded Rorarii or Gladius. Strategy Stay a relative good distance from Tertius. In my opinon the healing from capsarius isn't something you have to pay extra attention to. But rather focus on the boss and Gladius minions as the minion can stun you. Getting stunned and lightning at the same time can deal huge amount of damage. However pay attention to that the closer you are to the target the more damage you will deal, but the higher the risk is of dying. Pray Magic deflect and keep moving to avoid taking damage from the Lightning strikes. Similar to the other bosses. Quartus Quartus You're required to have Quartus keys to enter his chamber. Legio Quartus attacks primarily with a combination of a basic magic attack and a lightning attack. Which deals high, magic-style damage to the player if they stand where the lightning falls. (The lightning attack is always affixed to the player's location, and thus continuously moving throughout the fight is imperative.) Ability Legio Quartus' unique ability is teleporting the player next to him when he reaches 75%, 50% and 25% life points and launching an additional lightning attack at/around the spot he teleported the player, on top of his regular attacks. This act can be seen as both a benefit or threat - if the player is very far from Quartus, being teleported nearby should not have much of an effect to their life points. Strategy As you will get teleported pay extra attention to where the lightning strikes are as you may be teleported to one. My tip is to avoid standing too close to Quartus and keep moving as much as possible. However the closer you are to the target the more damage you will deal. Pray Magic deflect and keep moving to avoid taking damage from the Lightning strikes. Quintus Quintus You're required to have Quintus keys to enter his chamber. Legio Quintus attacks primarily with a combination of a basic magic attack and a lightning attack. Which deals high, magic-style damage to the player if they stand where the lightning falls. (The lightning attack is always affixed to the player's location, and thus continuously moving throughout the fight is imperative.) Ability Legio Quintus' unique ability is summoning "Lines of Ascension" in the laboratory when he reaches 75%, 50% and 25% life points. This is very dangerous and makes Quintus possibly the most tedious to fight for inexperienced players as death is a much higher possibility due to limiting the player's space to avoid orb attacks. The first and third lines he summons will run horizontally, while the second line runs vertically. Stepping on one of these lines will deal incredibly heavy damage (more than the lighting strike in terms of individual damage) - however, it only hits once if you step across the line. Strategy Quintus is by far the hardest and most annoying Legion to kill. It is worth noting that the player can "force" the lines to spawn as when he reaches 75%, 50% and 25% life points respectively, a line will spawn wherever the player is currently. Doing this near the edges of the laboratory will effectively nullify them if they perform the hit-and-run tactic while keeping away from them completely - however, players should note that he will take less damage the further you are from him, so this is only recommended for inexperienced players. Bring extra food and potential a shield to reduce the damage taken from the lines. Do not stay in the lines avoid as much as possible. Keep moving back and forth. Pray Magic deflect and keep moving to avoid taking damage from the Lightning strikes. Sextus Sextus You're required to have Sextus keys to enter his chamber. Legio Sextus attacks primarily with a combination of a basic magic attack and a lightning attack. Which deals high, magic-style damage to the player if they stand where the lightning falls. (The lightning attack is always affixed to the player's location, and thus continuously moving throughout the fight is imperative.) Ability Legio Sextus' unique ability is his lightning attacks - unlike the other Legiones, his attacks are not modified as his health decreases. Sextus' lightning attacks last significantly longer than his fellow Legiones, as they only start to dissipate once three strikes are on the field. In addition to the increased duration of these attacks. This should be kept in mind while running around; doing so in an erratic way is not advised as the larger radius and prolonged duration can potentially slow down kills, though his laboratory is fairly large to avoid these attacks while dealing as much damage as possible. Sextus is fairly easy to kill, much like Primus and Secundus. Strategy Sextus is pretty easy to kill, avoid the lightning strikes and move a larger distance from each strike as they will last longer, but still staying as close to possible to deal as much damage. Pray Magic deflect and keep moving to avoid taking damage from the Lightning strikes. Setup/Gear suggestion As the Ascension members are weak against range, we going to focus on range setup.
