Longshot
Hey all, thanks for stopping by. There are a lot of questions in the help chat about how to solve clue scroll puzzles. Hopefully this guide is useful to finding the patterns in the puzzle. Please feel free to comment any more advanced ways to solve! Skipping Spoiler Firstly, you can buy puzzle box skipping tickets from the grand exchange for 500k gp each as of 2/13/22. With the puzzle box skipping ticket and a brand new, unsolved puzzle in your inventory, do the following. Simply press "Activate" on the ticket, select "Yes.", and the puzzle will be instantly solved, consuming your ticket. Hand the completed puzzle back to the NPC from whom you received the puzzle. -> -> Solving Spoiler Solving a clue scroll puzzle is fairly simple when you find the right formula. First thing's first, utilize the "Hint" button at the bottom left of the puzzle interface by hovering over the icon. This shows what the completed version should look like. Do this periodically throughout and you will have a much easier time deciding which pieces to slide and in what order. Next, you will want to logically break down the puzzle into multiple pieces. I like to solve puzzles in the following order, sequentially from 1-25. I work from top to bottom in the first three rows, then left to right in the bottom two rows, ending with a 2x3 rectangle in the bottom right of the puzzle. Let's break that down. Single Piece Moves In the screenshots above, we know we want piece #11 to go to the #1 (top-left-most) position in the finished product. Luckily, the blank space is in slot #12 right beside the desired piece. To get a piece to move to its desired location, you must always operate around the blank space. To do so, you have to click the squares adjacent to the blank square to get them to "swap" positions. In this case, we will press the tiles in the following order to effectively move piece #11 to the #1 position. Click piece #7 to move it to position #12 Click piece #2 to move it to position #7 Click piece #1 to move it to position #2 Click piece #6 to move it to position #1 Click piece #11 (desired) to move it to position #6. Halfway there! Essentially rinse and repeat steps #1-5 above to finally move the desired piece, now in position #6, to position #1. 1/25 pieces done! 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) Complete this process two more times to place desired pieces into positions #2 and #3. Multiple Piece Moves Now it's time to solidify pieces into positions #4 and #5. This is slightly more tricky, but overall pretty easy. First, let's locate the pieces we need in slots #4 and #5. I've identified those in our example below, which fall in positions #5 and #24, respectively. So we need to move #5->#4 and #24->#5. To do this, we need to align these pieces so they are adjacent to one another, and in the right order. First, let's move the #24 piece up a little bit to get within a 2x3 rectangle with the piece in slot #5 by using the blank tile as always. Now, we have our two desired pieces within a 2x3 rectangle together. This is a key skill when solving these puzzle boxes. To solve this, let's first move desired piece #4 underneath desired piece #5 so that once we slide them over together, desired piece #5 ends up in the corner and not #4. It is ideal in this situation to place desired piece #5 in the top-left of our 2x3 rectangle. Let's do this by adjusting all the pieces one square utilizing our blank tile. -> Now, as you can see, our blank tile is holding the space our desired piece #4 should be in, so let's make that switch. -> Finally, slide these tiles once each using your blank tile, and you've completed the top row! Rinse and Repeat Complete this process two more times to fully complete the first three rows. Only the red to go! Similar to section "Multiple Piece Moves" above, you will want to treat the last two rows as a series of three 2x3 rectangles. Start with solving for tiles #16+17 as I laid it out in the initial screenshot (the two left-most tiles in the first 2x3 rectangle). Next, tackle the second 2x3 rectangle, again only setting the two left-most tiles. Finally, you solve the entire 2x3 rectangle in the last piece of the puzzle. You can again solve the two left-most tiles, then the final 4 pieces will fall into place, including the blank tile in the bottom right position. Rotate the last 4 tiles a couple times using the blank tile, and you've done it. You solved the puzzle! As I said, please comment your thoughts below on any ways we can all improve our puzzle-solving skills together. Twenty Weeks
Amazing guide, Longshot! I can tell you put in a lot of effort for this and it's got clear, easy-to-follow instructions while providing alternatives that might render your explanation not needed. Lots of respect for that, great work. 1 To do what I've preached. Founding member of Bandits
